The Foolishness of the Cross
1 Corinthians 1

Many people believe that the “message of the cross” is foolish.
(“The message of the cross” = the entire story of Jesus’ death, burial and resurrection.)

Foolish = “moria” = moron, moronic

In the first century, most Jews and Greeks didn’t believe in the story of Jesus.

The Jews stumbled over the story of Jesus because:
A. He didn’t meet their expectations.
B. They thought they could please God by their hard work,
so who needs a Savior?
The Greeks considered the story of Jesus foolish because:
A. It didn’t make sense from an intellectual point of view.
B. Everyone would eventually be saved, so who needs a Savior?

The “message of the cross” is not foolish … it is the power of God!
Don’t be a fool! Believe in the risen Jesus!
